Pro sports is not the same. And they organize themselves differently from each other anyway. The only pro model that makes much sense to me is a systems of relegation and promotion IF you can get enough schools to participate versus the myriad leagues and level differentiation largely based on scholarship limits going on now.
Schools don’t have contractual rights to players other than one year scholarships that may restrict a player unless released. And frankly the player can still leave and just sit out with no real penalty. The schools don’t own the NIL of individuals. Bottom line, for all the *****ing, the system isn’t the problem. It’s just that Mizzou and/or Missouri people don’t want to spend like the SEC competition. MU would be fine with its fan spending in just about every other league. But it Chose to be in the one where it is going to have a hard time spending like most of the league members because it’s giving level isn’t the same. Either spend more of your money, take what comes with status quo or go to a league your spending level is better suited to compete. So, as for me, I expect no SEC championships post NIL and simply hope for a program that can finish around .500 in the SEC. That will be hard enough unless MU somehow can become a competitive spender.
