prevent anti-competitive behavior, which in this case would include schools with rich boosters bribing recruits to play for their school via sham "endorsement deals".
College sports have always been non-profit amateur athletic competitions. Student-athletes should play and study at their favorite university, rather than the one with the most lucrative endorsement deal opportunities. If they don't want to be an amateur athlete, they don't have to be, but that means they won't be able to compete in NCAA competitions.
