It's still about tradition, school spirit, the colors, the school, the uniforms etc.

That's why minor league sports don't draw. You could put the same 85 athletes and call them the "Detroit Bombers" and have them play in Detroit against the "Miami Palm Trees" and they would draw 3,000 and probably go out business.

But put the same guys at Michigan stadium in maize and blue and they'll draw 100,000.

You are exactly right. If they go down this road people will bail out in droves.
