serve the interests of the teachers, not the students. That is not their function. The UAW is not there to build better cars; it is there for the benefit of the workers. Teachers' unions serve the same function.
It is not difficult to remove bad teachers. The difficulty in removing bad teachers is bad administrators. There is a process that must be followed, if it is not then you cannot remove the teacher. It is actually pretty easy to remove even teachers with tenure but there is a paper trail that must be followed.
