Smart is an important distinction

And I don't mean this comment specifically targeted at any coach in particular or Cuonzo as well, but I think in large part the rising stars of the coaching profession are doing so because of intelligence and aptitude, whereas historically it was driven by past experience, playing experience, or possibly value as a recruiter. I don't think it would be accurate to characterize the people who largely make up the head coaching community as 'smart', at least not as to how that would be defined in most other professions. You get someone like a Brad Stevens or Quin Snyder and they become a revelation simply because they are considerably more intelligent than many of their peers.
To me, that is where the untapped potential is. A guy like Drink might not have been viewed as a serious candidate not that long ago in the past simply because of who he is and the things he does bring to the table would have been deprioritized.
