Come on, Gary, you're talking to me, not every SLU fan. At least, pretend you're not talking to the entire fan base. Maybe this conversation would be more pleasant. I'll try to do the same.
Mizzou probably doesn't have anything to gain by playing a road game at a lesser program's place, but we're not talking about SEMO or UMKC here. Mizzou fans are circling the wagons by trying to latch on to the school's conference affiliation and look down on teams from conferences with perceived lesser prestige when the perception isn't reality.
For one thing, just because Alabama is great at football and it's nearly impossible for any team other than an SEC team to win a National Championship doesn't mean the SEC is a great basketball league. Outside of Kentucky, it really isn't. And just because the Atlantic 10 doesn't sponsor football doesn't mean it's automatically lower in quality than the SEC. There have been occasions in the past decade when the A-10 has been better than the SEC.
And then, looking at the schools individually, without respect to conference affiliation, Mizzou's level is not far above SLU's level (if at all). Mizzou is about as far away from the rarefied air of Duke or Kentucky as SLU is. It takes some pretentious audacity for Mizzou to look down its nose at SLU.
I go to the billikens.com message board to read about and discuss SLU, and I come to this board to read about and discuss Mizzou. If Mizzou fans stop obsessively discussing SLU here, then I wouldn't bring them up. But some Mizzou fans wear their insecurity on their sleeves, I guess.
I haven't called anyone names; posters have been calling me names. Your debate skills need work if all you can do is resort to calling me a child, particularly when I haven't done what you're alleging. If you're referring to my use of the the adjectives (not nouns) "silly" and "chicken" to describe the insecure rationale some members of the Mizzou fan base uses to attempt to justify the approach, then I suggest you develop a thicker skin. I'm not calling you silly, just the way you think.
Oh, the irony! "Know who you (your program) are & stay in your lane." The same thing can be said about Mizzou. But neither program should "stay in its lane." Both should be scratching and clawing to bust through and actually do something.
But I guess the motto is "Show me. But I don't have to show you."
