Everything was done by the book. But Porter decided to leave before Romar was fired and I've been told that likely lead to Romar's firing.
UW was very reluctant to fire Romar because of his buyout and UWs financial situation. They felt that the top recruiting class coming in could maintain fan interest for at least another year which would drop his buyout by over a million. When Porter decided to leave and the top recruiting class would go with him, the decision to move on from Romar was made.
Why do you think this is impossible to have occurred? Do you not think that any coach Mizzou would have hired would have made a call to Porter Sr. before accepting the job? I know I sure would investigate the job in-depth, especially if the rumors of Illinois being interested in Cuonzo were true.
