I think it's also pretty realistic to believe that UW's AD noticed their basketball team only won 9 games with a stacked roster, and didn't believe Romar was a viable long term option anymore so they cut him loose with very little regard for what recruits he may or may not have committed to him in the next class.

The Porters didn't get Romar fired. Romar got Romar fired and the Porters were able to move on because of it.
