several of its contenders (unfairly) excluded from the field, then there would likely be greater resistance from the other conferences (and possibly the TV networks) to letting *more* SEC teams in the field. They would see it as a necessary "handicap" to avoid complete SEC domination.
However, the non sequitur I was referring to was his implication that if the SEC doesn't dominate (with deserving teams excluded) it's "all talk".
Consider last year. Georgia probably would have won the 4-team Playoff last year (instead of Michigan) but it was knocked out by Alabama in the SEC title game. Of course, we'll never know for sure... but that's the point – we'll never know the true national champ as long as legitimate contenders from the SEC are being excluded due to conference cannibalization.
