(2) no, probabilities in sports can be estimated through sampling and statistical methods. The simplest example is free-throw percentage, since each attempt is consistent (uncontested, and from the same location on the court). If a 50% free-throw shooter goes 10-for-10 from the line in a 1-point win, that's a lucky break that can be measured with the binomial distribution.
To say that "sports involve probabilities" is NOT to say they are "decided by random chance", but instead that each event with a measurable outcome can be modelled as a random variable following some kind of probability distribution.
That's what AWS is doing with its real-time sports analytics.
