They are the odds. Outcomes can defy the odds.

Sports (particularly basketball, but also in general) don’t involve probabalities. They aren’t games of random chance.

They involve skill, strategy, decision making, and reaction to the other team.

You can apply statistics to the outcomes to try to help make sense of what happened, i.e. Vanover has shot poorly so far, so he’ll likely continue to do so.

But it’s not predictive - if he hits his next 10 3’s it’s not because of “luck.”
