a strong correlation between the "luck" stat and the overall efficiency ratings of the teams considered to have the best coaching staffs.
Furthermore, the "luck" metric would be relatively consistent year-over-year for the same coaching staff.
But neither is the case.
For an example, look no further than Gates and the dramatic 180-degree swing in "luck" from last year's team to the current one.
One point I agree with yon on is "Its not quite that simple as teams like ku that have unfair officiating advantages and protected homecourts often show up high in the luck metric"... but that's the exception, not the norm.
