I would argue your belief/assumption that Christians believe we are 'unworthy' is incorrect. We are worthy enough the God of the universe sent His son to die for our sins...that's incredibly worthy and loved.

Unpopular opinion, but American society was better when we shamed and tried to suppress/repress sexual impulses and desires outside of marriage. Sex within marriage is not 'shamed' by the code, as it is the only type of sex that is biblical.

Maybe another way the code can be looked at differently is that short term (in this case 4-ish years) denial of self (whether alcohol, sex, or other prohibited behaviors by the code) can increase discipline in your life.
