player and them wearing and using all Nike gear is pretty large FMV.

The next logical step once they have them under contract is to concentrate that talent on teams so "winning" is always associated with NIKE teams.

Just Nike and Adidas have 60 billion a year in revenues. They want to throw their advertising dollars at players it will certainly impact the schools that are blessed to be part of the Nike Team.
