Cuonzo Martin will be the highest-paid Missouri basketball coach in the program’s history, and it isn’t even close. Missouri agreed to pay the $1.1 million buyout for Martin’s departure from California.
No MU basketball coach has ever received more than $2 million per year. Frank Haith was previously the program’s highest-paid coach after making $1.6 million for three seasons in Columbia.
Martin’s contract allows $1.1 million to fill out his coaching staff, which includes assistant coaches -- usually three, but MU previously had four, with Brad Loos serving as a special assistant -- a strength and conditioning coach, a director of basketball operations and director of video operations. An athletic department spokesperson said that the program’s budget for staff last season was $900,000.
