No, it's more like a hoax than a misunderstanding.

It is absolutely ludicrous to think that more than 1 or 2 people misunderstood and thought it was really a noose. As soon as those people told anybody with any sort of authority, it should have been explained.
1. the guy/guys who found it should have had enough awareness to notice that other pulls were tied up too and that it is a common practice in multiple nascar track garages, including the garage rope pull on the very next garage door over....which, if you look for "after" pictures you can clearly tell that the rope is kinked and had been tied up but then undone instead of being cut off like the one in #4.
2. there are dozens, if not hundreds, of people regularly working in that area from track employees, to team employees, and nascar officials. As fast as this got around, it's ignorant to think that absolutely nobody knew about it. nascar did one of two things: A. panicked and rushed to make an announcement and show support out of fear of backlash. or B. Saw an opportunity to try to make their sport look like they support equality and the fight against racism....because let's be honest, their track record is not just the best ever.
Regardless of any of this, it was a HUGE mistake for nascar to rush to make a public announcement before they had gathered any facts about it.
I don't think any reasonable people think that Bubba Wallace had anything to do with this. He was just caught in the middle. Some of you are going to read this and come to the conclusion that I'm a racist nascar homer defending nascar...which would prove your own stupidity. I can't stand nascar and blame the entire situation on nascar and I feel bad for Wallace being caught up in it. It feels like he was made a pawn in this mess.
