Asthma is one example of a preexisting condition.
There are 25MM asthmatics in the country, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthmma, and Immunology. Arthritis is also considered a preexisting condition.

I don't deny that obesity and diabetes are related and that lifestyle choices play a role, but I think there are lot more people with preexisting conditions beyond their control than people realize.
