after WWII when they encouraged businesses to provide health care for employees by making the expenditures tax deductible for the businesses and to not be counted as income by the employees.

They didn't give those same tax advantages to people who paid their own health insurance themselves.

I think they could fix the health care system by eliminating those deductions for the employers and providing those deductions for all individuals. The companies could increase salaries overall and let the employees pay their own expenses as they see fit, just as they do with housing, food, clothing, entertainment, etc.

They might have to tweak things to provide for coverage for people with ongoing health conditions that would be uninsurable or far too expensive for the average consumer to afford, but there are a variety of ways to do that & should be able to be accomplished in a fair & reasonable manner.
