Has anyone else had this experience with health care?

Our daughter turned 18 last summer and needed her tonsils removed. No big deal, we schedule her and take her in for the surgery. She had some complications so we were contacting them about what to do. They refused to talk to us because she was an adult and they did not have a release on file.

When the payment was due and she missed the first one they called us within days requesting that payment. What suddenly happened to patient privacy? They had no issue discussing her details when it came to paying them.
