At some point you have to have a CBA and someone needs to directly represent the players. Once again though, the same needs to be done on the owners (school side). Who is that? Once that happens have conferences outlived there usefulness? I'd argue yes. You have an group that represents the schools and negotiates alignment, terms with the player's organization, eligibility, TV contracts etc.

It would officially become the minor leagues to the NFL. I'm not sure any of this is good for the sport long term.
