previous four seasons and the previous five recruiting classes?

Maybe this team will win 30 games and take the SEC title, it's possible. I find it much more likely that they will win 10 games and finish dead last in the SEC.

If we always must reserve judgment until the upcoming season does that mean we are stuck with CM until he retires or dies?
