valid example of an MU coach, because that was an extremely odd extenuating circumstance. But him aside of course anyone who becomes the coach of a major program is one of the best in their field. Cuonzo is below avg in the sense of being compared to other major conference coaches, which puts him in the upper 3% or so of all basketball coaches below the NBA level. I didn't mean he was a below avg coach overall in relation to the guy who coaches at the local middle school.
I was really hopeful for him as MU's coach. I was rather impressed with his first season, thought he did a poor job at managing the pg position and gave a number of games away due to late game meltdowns but overall did a very impressive job trying to fit round holes into square pegs and got more out of that roster (particularly defensively) than could be reasonably expected. I thought he did an astonishingly poor job coaching the next two seasons, but it was plausibly explainable due to injuries causing him to adjust in ways he was not prepared for or weren't ideal and frankly he inherited an absolutely cratered program. Last season I had hope that he would demonstrate he could still do it. But now I know he can't, although I don't think he should be fired or anything and deserves the chance to keep coaching MU. I just no longer believe he has the capacity for a good season at MU, its more than he can accomplish.
