They were by a decent margin the 2nd best program to MU in the 1980's, and then admittedly slipped towards the tail end of the Tubbs era leading to Kelvin coming in and taking them into the Big 12.

ku and KSU were 3rd and 4th depending on how you weighed various criteria.
