Shortly after being hired nearly every staff gets some recruiting wins based on the excitement and unknown of starting a new program, and then ideally you build on that momentum. Unfortunately at MU we had Michael Porter Sr as dead weight, then submitted a terrible year two and and even worse year 3, and a bunch of recruits left over playing time/role and we took some incredible reaches on others, and any initial momentum entirely dissipated. We have still never been able to create a program identify.
I don't think Cuonzo is a subpar recruiter. But his assistants are just not helping him nearly enough, and he has been loyal to them in the face of those lack of results.
That said, I do disagree with your last point. Avging 21 wins a season is the definition of mediocre in today's college basketball.
