If a significant portion of the population doesn't get the vaccine then it's not as effective and the virus will continue to spread. You see this in third world countries where they kill people who are trying to provide vaccines.

Unfortunately I've been see a lot of anti-vaxxer propaganda running around and a lot of Americans falling for it.
