it wasn't always that way. During the Devine era, I'd say the entire state was behind Mizzou and proud of the team's performance. A lot of that had to do with the fact that the roster was mostly comprised of home-grown kids from all over the state.
A lot of negative things have happened since then. Unsupportive administrations. Terrible coaching hires. A smattering of rogue players. Poor relations with certain sections of the state, especially inner city St. Louis. The ridiculous boycott in 2015. Potential NCAA probation this year. So, while not excusing Mizzou's fan base for not supporting the team better, we have given the casual fan enough excuses to turn to other activities every fall.
What really baffles me is why more students don't attend games. When I was in school in the late 60s/early 70s, you had to be a complete nerd or a foreign exchange student not to attend each and every home game. Now, a lot of kids go home on weekends to see mommy and daddy or their high school friends. Go figure.
