The SECN was on the drawing board at the time the SEC was considering adding Mizzou. The SECN planned to use the standard cable tv channel business model. In that model, the number of cable subscribers is paramount.
The expansion calculus for the SEC was adding Mizzou would add the St. Louis and KC cable markets to the league’s existing market. No alternative added as many subscribers. Bottom line, adding Mizzou was a monetary calculation intended to maximize the SECN’s market.
Have also heard that Bob Silvia (sp?), SEC Comm at the time had once practiced law in KC and reprisented Norm in one of his run ins with the NCAA circa 1990. Perhaps someone can confirm whether or notthat’s true.
Frankly, giving Pinole a lot of credit for the SEC taking Mizzou is . . ..
