1. Go hard-ass, suspend the players involved. He does this you better be ready for a roster full of gritty, scrappy coach's kids.
2. Take the middle road - tell the group that wants to sit they're welcome to protest, they're not removed from the team but Mizzou is going to play with whoever is left. If that means burning redshirts or players going both ways, so be it. When the protesting players return they'll go the bottom of the depth chart and have to work their way back up. The problem here is how would that divide the locker room - would the players who decided to play been seen as scabs or would there be resentment toward the guys who walked?
3. Do what Pinkel did - support the players who walked and get the entire team to buy in. Unfortunately we know what that leads to.
This never should have got to a point where GP had to make a decision. It was a failure by Wolfe, Loftin, & Rhoades to do their jobs and lead the University. Tim Wolfe didn't know what to do, made a horrible decision to hire a washed up Chancellor looking to get one final paycheck before retiring. And the AD was too busy cowering under his desk while surfing higheredjobs.com to do anything.
