charge of 'racism' is really about.
It's not about klansmen.
It's not about separate bathrooms and Jim Crow laws.
It's not about the current official legal environment or hiring practices per se.
It's about black members of society FEELING like they get to participate in all activities of the economy and life on the same basis as they BELIEVE the white community does.
So, does a black person feel WEIRD on campus. Is the greek community or other students at MU harboring strange feelings towards black people that would make them feel discriminated against, ostracized or judged because of the color of their skin?
The new level of 'non-racism' is a state of spiritual development that hopes for equal treatment of everyone regardless of skin color.
The challenge currently is that neither group, neither the African American community as currently established, nor the white community, as currently established is really up to the challenge - both continue to aggressively forward a way of life that maintains a fairly deep segregation and massive non-communication.
As long as that situation continues those who wish to fan the flames of old school racism will find ready targets.
And in light of that, I can understand why kids would support J-Mon. They want to feel at home on the campus and they want the wider society to exit deep segregation and evolve into something much more palatable. Anything seen as possibly helping with that they are going to support...
