1960s was not culture wars but generational conflict with the Boomer representing literally the coming majority.
2) Young folks were never "finally winning". We were young and it was a conflict (generational conflict) as old as the hills.
3) There was more going on than just Vietnam. Civil Rights conflicts - see water hoses turned on young black folks - white only fountains too. Per Vietnam, the generation in power had fought WWII and could not figure out the young protesting their country's military. Much conflict was also within families not just between and amorphous establishment and the young. Again, that is an age old dynamic.
4) The young wanted "things done differently".
5) It was an age of Transcendence - similar to the New Transcendentalists in New England in the 1800s.
6) There was no huge disaster nor an outside world looking in.
7) Yes, there was a greater sense of freedom. Drug use, free love, freaks are examples of that.
8) Woodstock had no real parallels. And it was the movie that brought the great reknown to Woodstock. Not too that THAT summer brought it all. Woodstock was the high holy for the young with feelings of love and acceptance - but it was bookmarked by Altamount and Charlie Manson. IMHO.
