You can't tear down the influence of govt..... that is a Pipe dream the best you can do is keep it in check. That was why the Constitution was put in place and State Rights where paramount.

Of course Lincoln destroyed all of that because once the Agricultural Cash cow needed to Prop up the Norths Industrial Economy decided to go their own way he has to Marshal troops to keep that from happening.

After that Federal Power was cemented into the system and it's been down hill ever since for a Libertarian style of govt.
