Martin did recruit Robinson and his premier recruit (MPJr) barely played for Mizzou. He also recruited Tilmon regardless of the impact of the Porter recruitment. Jontay was the only player that really fell into his lap. Barnett was actually a KA recruit as a transfer and we had Puryear as well that year. Geist markedly improved under Martin's tenure.
I agree that Martin is eons away from living up to expectations but you have to give him some of the credit in those years Mizzou did reach the tourney. The corollary is that he rolled the dice with letting some good players move on and having replaced them with less talented mid major players, he also bears full responsibility. My bigger concern is that he will get a "pass" because he has an entirely new team this year
