... are a competitive Power Conference without cache.
BYU is the closest thing, because they have a national brand and the last National Championship in modern times.
Competitively, the 12 new schools are better than the PAC12 overall today, but that isn't likely to continue. The Pac12 has brand power in the conference.
And once UCF, Cincy, Houston and BYU are all playing tougher conference games, they wont have as many Top 25 teams as it shows today.
They are also at the mercy of the 4 conference ahead of them -- if they decide to expand, it could be game over for Big 12. But honestly, if the Big 4 were to expand... it would be the SEC and or/Big 10 picking off the ACC and PAC12, Notre Dame, before they would go to the Big 12.
The ACC or Pac 12 could theoretically first strike to take Big 12 teams, but it won't move the needle, so isn't likely.
The schools in the Big 12 should be happy - they get to keep their P5 status and a major brand conference. And someone in that group will dominate the next 20-30 years and possibly become a Blue Blood for the first time.
It wasn't going to happen in the previous setup, but now it almost assuredly will happen... and some of those schools are going to grow a very good brand that will eventually be attractive to a P4 or P2 conference.
I'm kinda rooting for Oklahoma State because of Gundy. I also always liked Kansas State because of what Bill Snyder did.
