That singlehandedly prevented a conference network. The programs added have top 25 capability. Texas was a perpetual underachiever.
Oklahoma is a loss, but how many eyeballs in that state that will still watch little brother? The Big 12 added strength in numbers that won’t leave. They can now negotiate for carriage as a conference network, and in any given year could have multiple top 25 teams. Football viewership isn’t as big on the west coast as it is elsewhere. Historical programs, maybe, but the PAC was least successful on a national stage and in conference revenues.
I guess we’ll see how it shakes out, and I think Memphis might have been a better add than Houston, but the Big 12 have survived, and nobody else in that conference will get an invite to another conference. If they could have, they already would have.
