that someone is an upstanding member of society in this scenario.

I don't necessarily think people are trying to say he's super nice and friendly, or that he exceptionally virtuous, but rather that he is not sleazy as they think some others in the profession are.

I guess I could agree with this. I don't really see Martin as a guy I want to hang out with....he does not seem super friendly or funny, but I also don't seen him as a creep. Not a great guy, not a bad guy, a good guy.
