When I first met Zo I found him a bit stoic, but once i talked to him several times, I was impressed by his genuineness. When talking basketball, I never had a conversation with him that he didn't talk about winning championships. whether it was how a player could help him do that or what he thought needed to happen to do so. But it was always there. But the main thing was when he was talking with you, he was interested in what you thought. He asked questions, he asked you to elaborate. I found that rare in a coach talking to someone not professionally involved with him. I found him sometimes uncomfortably honest, he didn't shy from saying things, he wasn't someone who just threw out coach-speak cause that's all he had to. He was never above you in an interaction . None of that speaks to his coaching ability plus or minus, but it does speak to how he approaches people including his players . He's not a sugar coat it make ya feel good guy, but he's not harsh , critical type either; he lets truth do the confronting when he's not happy with your effort and he lays it out as he see's it, tells ya what to expect if you persist, or what can be done to change the course. Like I said, genuine. I don't think I would want to try to bs him; I'm sure a number of players have found that to be a tough conversation as well as other adults as well.
