of appearance or diversity of thought?

Today diversity is purely skin deep if you look a certain way I can hire you and check boxes off of a document I am required to submit. This type of diversity not only doesn't help an organization it usually harms them. By focusing on optics you encourage people to overlook other values that may actually benefit.

If you are talking about diversity of thought or even experience then I think this type of diversity does add value. If you have five different people working on a project and they are all thinking exactly alike I doubt they are going to come up with many different solutions to the problem they are working on. But if those same five are of different ages, different backgrounds and have different ways of thinking their group could come up with multiple very different solutions to their problem. Assuming of course that there is a culture of sharing ideas and opinions and working together.
