effect on slowing it down... or herd immunity was kicking in to a significant extent.
The UK's about face seemed to have belatedly had an effect.
Sweden's milder social distancing seems to have elevated their infection and death rates compared to most other countries, but not drastically, and they are not the worst at deaths per million.
South Dakota's lack of a shutdown hasn't seemed to hurt them, but they are a pretty rural state.
Austria's mandate of masks seems to have had a significant effect on dropping the transmission rate and death rate.
One hospital's mandate of masks for all of their staff dropped the internal infection rate in half from what I remember.
The evidence seems inconclusive to me, just from a semi-cursory review of the info available to us, but social distancing & lock downs seem to help... but by how much... and is it worth the significant costs... not the least of which is the suspension of the most basic of constitutional rights.
