It absolutely has killed interest at a number of programs once they suffer a second loss or one bad loss and are "out of the playoffs."

And rivalries are history. It's like the NFL. There really are no rivalries except the media generated ones. Auburn would gladly lose to Alabama but get into the "playoffs." The other thing is elongated playoffs will continue to drive the media toward the players getting paid and bring the whole house down.
