The key is that nobody really cares if Vandy is in their Divison or not, not even Tennessee. Thus you could keep in state rivalries intact and make geographic sense this way:

WEST
Mizzou
Arkansas
Texas A&M
LSU
Ole Miss
Mississippi State
Vandy

EAST
Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
Florida
South Carolina
Tennessee
Kentucky

Does the East become loaded for the moment? Sure. But how many times have we had to hear "the East sucks" "the East is down" etc. fine, this fixes it. And if suddenly the cry is "the West sucks" it exposes that any non-Bama division is what is deemed as sucking
