Mary, was taken in and cared for by the Apostle John, and St. Luke got much of the information he shared in his Gospel was from Mary.

She obviously knew when her son was born.

The early Christians obviously would have been very interested in that and would have asked her and she would have willingly shared that information.

and the earliest records we have show that the Christians celebrated Christ's birth on December 25th... Christmas.
