Contrary to the dumb-ass claim that Christmas was set to coincide with the pagan celebration of winter solstice, it wasn't. The solstice is four days earlier. Duh! Early Church fathers, using Scripture and other sources concluded the actual birth of Jesus to be December 25. Modern scholars think it more likely to be sometime in the Spring.
But, of course the dumb-asses who want to think they're the sharpest sticks in the bundle are really self deluded. Early Christians did not choose the date to disguise their celebration or to hijack the Roman holiday.
