and got exposed to the KC vernacular.
I never got used to it, either. It sounded awkward every time I heard a KC'er say it. I'd tell them "it's called SODA outside of Kansas, you absolute country bumpkins!"
But that was ~15 years ago. Maybe KC has evolved since then.
