Of course it doesn't *prove* aspartame causes CVD in humans

since it was a study on mice, but "aspartame increased insulin levels in a dose-dependent manner (A) and caused insulin resistance, as measured by glucose and insulin tolerance tests (B-C). Remarkably, the effects of aspartame on insulin resistance were even greater than those of sucrose (table sugar, red vs blue bars).
Similar results were observed in monkeys (D-E), where aspartame consumption led to a significant spike in insulin levels, suggesting these effects generalize to primates."
I would imagine that many/most humans consistently consuming diet beverages have a suboptimal lipid metabolism and inflammation as well. But even if they don't this is yet one more study among quite a few others that indicate that artificial sweeteners are quite likely harmful to humans.
That even fits intuitively. Would it be likely that artificially contrived chemicals that do not occur in nature would be beneficial for organisms not designed to process those chemicals?
