4) Gates clearly believes an open 3 is a good opportunity, and the earlier in the possession we get that, the better. He wants those shots. Of course he also wants to hit more of them but that's a different issue.

5) We have players who can get to the rim, but I haven't seen any consistency from them. They're far too willing to sit back and wait for a 3 (see above) instead of attacking, with the exception of Honor and East, neither of which are guys we actually want attacking the rim. Bates is probably the most capable, but he's way too inconsistent. I don't know what we have with him. Shaw can but rarely does. Others don't get enough time on the floor to really get comfortable enough to play aggressively (to your first point).

I'll add I still think our total lack of desire to rebound is a problem. That's been Grill's biggest contribution so far - his energy and desire to get the ball, whether he's defending or rebounding.
