This is exactly right.

There is only so much Gates can do with these players. They are good but not capable of competing well against top level players.

So you recognize this in your post, but yet you think Gates is supposed to mold these mediocre players into elite players?

All the coaches they had before this did not get these players to be elite, because they just don't have the talent to be elite.
