the family felt that he was a serious threat to the community.

What could they/should they have done? What is their authority?

Could the family have legitimately forcibly taken his weapons? Or have in effect burglarized his home &/or vehicle?

What about the mental institution? Could they have sent orderlies or their security to break into his home & vehicle and any other place he may have had weapons stored?

Would it be legitimate for them to forcibly take weapons from him in person?

Was it, or would it have been within their rights to forcibly put him in a mental health institution and hold him there if it was against his will?
