it takes days to slow down or turn on a nuclear plant unless you want a nuclear accident

Coal fire takes hours to bring on and off line and that causes wear and tear

Gas is the only source that can react within about 15 minutes and I haven't seen a cloud going over a solar farm giving a 15 minute warning as to how thick it is

So while they boost and buck gas generation, they still have a base load running that most times is wasted.

The usefulness of solar is a small fraction of what it produces
