for every single program, top to bottom.
Formerly players were locked down with a lot pf draconian measures that made it easy for the programs to exploit them.
What did the player get in return? About $30k a year for an 'education' in an off-campus tutoring center where just about anyone of average intelligence could secure a nearly useless degree while simultaneously pursuing their true passion: football!
Yes, the top programs were already paying players, but NIL threw open the gauntlet creating bidding wars and radically changing the entire culture of college football recruiting.
So far, griping freeloaders aside, it's been a good thing for programs like Mizzou who now can also pay players without concern that they'll get SMU'd by the big boys.
This is why I have said from the beginning that NIL is opportunity for the smaller programs because at least now we are in the game. We have a chance to pick at second string and third string players in the rest of college football whereas before most of those players were locked in with one program for all four years.
The depth of the big programs means that now at least the Mizzous of the world have a shot at reloading every offseason, the entire fate of the program no longer hinges on recruiting highschool kids alone...
