this is why STL can't have nice things. The NIMBY syndrome.

STL county outnumbers STL city like 1 mil to 300k. It wins every vote in a merged government. Instead of fleeing downtown in abject fear and moaning about there not being a nice safe bar district or attractions to hang out at, Chesterfieldians an Ladueians could just impose their own plans, pour money into it, pave paradise and put up a parking lot, and reclaim one of the most historic downtowns in the US with one of its most iconic national monuments.

Do STL county people realize how huge a cash cow downtown STL and the Arch should be if it wasn't a clusterf***? I mean people like to hang out in KC Power and Light for crying out loud. People chill in downtown Cincy and Pittsburgh for kicks now. They don't have a giant f***ing Arch or the Mississippi River or the Bud brewery or Soulard to pimp. It's a layup there for the taking if it weren't for the clusterf*** infighting.
